Roosevelt National Historic Site. Eleanor, the wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, changed the role of the first lady through her active participation in American politics. She gave press conferences, spoke out for human rights, was strongly involved in children's causes, and was a tireless advocate for women's rights. She stood against racial discrimination and traveled abroad to visit U.S. troops during World War II. “ The greatest thing I have learned is how good it is to come home again. " by Eleanor Roosevelt whom expresses her love for the modest house she called Val-Kill; the only National Historic Site dedicated to a first lady.
The Junior Secret Service Program at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt is designed for children ages 7-12. The handbook and badge are available at the front desk of the Wallace Center upon request. This kids activity is free!
